On the field is a series of paintings on linen of the sporting game Polo, frozen in action. However, the horse and rider are cropped, drawing one’s attention to the shadow cast on the ground. Interspersed is the illusion of the ground against the exposed raw linen fabric, deliberately left unpainted. Each painting focuses on a different horse, distinguished by the leg wrap colour. The subject matter now becomes the abstract shadow silhouette. Have you ever just looked at the way shadows change and create beautiful images of their own? The intention is to encourage one to look more closely at our surrounds, at the seemingly insignificant things, to embrace seeing the beauty in the mundane and immaterial.
