Family Travels is a homage to the 3 generations that lived in my grandparents' house: my grandparents, my Dad and myself with my family, all at different times. My grandparents house was almost like a timewrap - with the vintage flying mallard ducks being iconic of the 1950s - and seeing them growing up and visiting in the 1990s (I didn't appreicate the treasures then). This painting depicts these ceramic painted ducks against a mustard yellow wall (iconic colour of the times) and plays with the idea of this painting being a still life with the shadow grounding them but also a landscape as the ducks could be flying.
