Inspired by the recent resurgence of Clarice Beckett’s misty landscapes, I was inspired by the Toowoomba winter fog and capturing a similar essence and how nearly 100years later, the landscape may look similar. With recent interest in AI being used in the art world, I wanted to explore what my phone camera cannot capture, so I experimented with an AI image generator. I trialled using particular words to see if it (IT) could capture my vision: it could not replicate the visual I had in my mind. The diptych reflects the idea of a fabricated image versus how words evoke an image in one’s mind. In contrast to the quote, “a picture paints a thousand words”, the text-based artwork was written as a poem, where the viewer will read it and conjure an image in their mind, therefore becoming the image creator. These paintings are intended to be displayed on a plinth back-to-back and the text artwork to be viewed first.
